giancarlo scarsi - architect
Giancarlo Scarsi lives and works in Alessandria.
He was born in 1956 and since the first school years he has been very fond of drawing and figurative arts. After attending the Scientific Lyceum, in 1981 he gets a degree in Architecture in Turin and since then he has been a freelance architect.
Painting is an old passion, which started when he was very young; every day's life has diverted his attention from the pictorial research and from the interest for forms and colours which, in fact, for several years drawsed. Then in 2003 after a long period of reflection, which lasted for nearly 20 years, and in which he produced nothing, Giancarlo Scarsi starts again to use brushes and colours to let his new strong and authoritarian need come out.
He enrols, thanks to persistent requests of his friend, the painter Gianni Torchia, struck by his canvas, in an art competition in Gavazzana, organized to restore the main church and S. Agata Fossili, both really damaged by an earthquake, and among the 300 pictures shown, his work is awarded a gold medal.
Since then he has partecipated to the national artistic life, taking part to art exhibitions, competitions and personal exhibitions, always getting the public and the critics rewards for the originality of his subjects and the inseparable artistic value that, work after work, fascinates the visitors, leaving in them a sign which, only a work of art, in its primordial purity, can transmit..
Giancarlo Scarsi paints feelings, moments and places where he has been or where he would like to be. He creates imaginary or remembered places where he felt at home and in peace with the purpose to feel that emotion again and to fix that magic moment, that strong perception which will remain forever.
The characters, whose faces are not visible, but who are always painted from behind, leave space to imagination and to the inevitable introspection which from the single picture projects itself, as from the particular to the universal, towards the most hidden meanders of the human soul. So the observer cannot but find out the psychological value of "silence", protagonist of his work, permeating landscapes and people of sounds understood only by the ones, who with great authentic sensibility, can be on the same wavelength as a work of art " out of time ".
